A Call to Engineers

On behalf of the International Committee for Robot Arms Control (ICRAC), roboticist Noel Sharkey has issued a call to engineers to “stand up and demand the prohibition of autonomous lethal targeting by robots.” In a piece published by The Engineer, Sharkey says the call to engineers is made “because you are the ones who know just how limited machines can be when it comes to making judgments; judgments that only humans should make; judgments about who to kill and when to kill them.”

Engineers, roboticists, Artificial Intelligence experts, and other scientists have been signing on to the Scientists’ Call to Ban Autonomous Lethal Robots, which is is available on the ICRAC website: http://icrac.net/call/
