We didn’t expect a Campaign to Stop Killer Robots to be needed in the world - but it is.
Our lives are becoming increasingly automated, from smart houses and targeted advertising to ‘self-service’ passport control.
Artificial intelligence is sorting, processing, and reshaping the relationship between people and society.
Autonomy in technology needs regulation because governments and companies are developing weapons that automate the decision to use force. These technologies dehumanise people, they reduce us to stereotypes – data to be processed.
Meaningful human control should be central to our relationship with technology and the role it plays in our lives.

Immoral Code
Life and death decisions shouldn't equate to 1's and 0's.
Immoral Code is a documentary that contemplates the impact of killer robots in an increasingly automated world - one where machines make decisions over who to kill or what to destroy.
The film examines whether there are situations where it’s morally and socially acceptable to take life, and importantly - would a computer know the difference?

On May 19 2023, Stop Killer Robots, along with Member Organisations the SGI, Amnesty International, Mines Action Canada and Article 36, amongst others supported the launch of our documentary short Immoral Code in London's Leicester Square.

Autonomous Weapons Explained
Autonomous weapons replace humans in the decision to use force.
They are fundamentally dehumanising and their development will have profound consequences for all of humanity. As technology rapidly develops, legal safeguards are not in place. Policy discussions on autonomous weapons need to address two key problems:
01. How do we maintain human control, and
02. Can we accept machines deciding to kill people?

In this video, we're talking to Giles Zamboski, a photorealistic synthetic actor.
'Giles' as he's come to be known, is created by AI, with all answers and even the questions themselves, generated by AI.
We've chosen to approach things in this way to give you a sense of what is possible using currently accessible technology, its potential to increase Digital Dehumanisation, and what AI thinks of increased autonomy.
