Inflection point at the CCW: Taking action on a decade of work

This paper provides an overview of where the evolving discussions in the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW) Group of Governmental Experts on lethal autonomous weapons systems (GGE on LAWS) stand following nine years of meetings, highlighting the primary areas of significant consensus and pinpointing areas that require further attention. The paper also highlights the numerous international and regional meetings and conferences, outside of the CCW, which have taken place on the issue of autonomy in weapons systems, as well as other United Nations (UN) resolutions and reports, and provides recommendations on next steps for states engaged in the CCW process.
